The National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research (NITTTR) Chennai was established as an autonomous Institute by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India in the year 1964 to improve the quality of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system in India and in the Southern Region in particular. Within this mandate, the institute takes initiatives to offer need based Human Resource Development programmes through appropriate modes and develop curricula and instructional resources.
The Institute of Life Sciences (ILS) located in Bhubaneswar has been brought under the fold of the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India in August 2002. The institute was earlier under the administrative and financial control of Department of Science and Technology, Government of Orissa.
Prime minister of India dedicated the institute to the nation on July 15, 2003 with a declaration to develop as a "National Centre for Excellence". The mandate of ILS is to undertake basic and translational research in frontier areas of life sciences.

The Institute has a built up area of about 3.60 lakh sq. ft., is spread over five main buildings, the main R&D block (~2.00 lakhs sq.
The ABV-Indian Institute of Information Technology & Management Gwalior (ABV-IIITM) aims at carrying out research of a consistently high academic standard, comparable to any international institute that will contribute to the advancement of knowledge and understanding in the cusp areas of IT and Management using an interdisciplinary approach including applied sciences and social sciences in line with the vision of the institute ("Global Excellence in Knowledge Economy").
The Indian Institute of Information Technology Allahabad (IIIT-A) was established in 1999, as a center of excellence in Information Technology and allied areas. The institute was conferred the "Deemed University" status by Govt. of India in the year 2000. The Institute thus became empowered to have a perpetual seal and award degrees subsequent to the conduct of its own examinations.
